Brissie, Queensland, November 12, 2019 – A US military official confirmed yesterday that American troops are in Brisbane to supply accommodation to the Australian army during the annual Royal Brisbane Regiment drill.

The official said US troops are on a military deployment in Queensland and have been providing accommodation for Australian troops for several weeks.

A US military spokesperson confirmed the presence of troops in Queensland on a “military support mission”.

The US official said there was a “large contingent of US forces” in Brisbane and they are providing accommodation to Australian soldiers.

It is understood the US military has been providing lodging and accommodation to troops in Australia since the end of 2017.

In a statement, the US Embassy in Queensland said US forces in Brisbane were “supplying accommodation to our troops and other US and Australian personnel”.”US troops are providing support to the Royal Brisbane Rifles as they conduct a joint drill on the Gold Coast this weekend,” the statement said.

“As a US-based company, we are confident that we have the necessary equipment, support and facilities to assist our troops in their deployment.”

The US has more than 500 troops in Brisbane, including more than 100 in the city’s airport, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) said.

In October, the ADF announced it was sending two US troops to the city to support US troops.

Adm Jeff Davis, the commander of the ADI’s Brisbane and the Goldfields operations, said in October he would also send up to 100 US Marines to assist in the drill.

“We will be providing some military equipment and supplies, including some personal protective equipment and uniforms,” he said.

“We also have a team of military police, to provide security to the barracks and surrounding area.”

He said the US Marines would also be deployed to assist with the deployment of US soldiers and equipment to Brisbane.

Adm Davis said the Marines would be based at the Brisbane Naval Base, a base located in Townsville.
